Welcome back, Superhuman. We’re now officially asking AI to help us build better AI. DeepMind’s AlphaEvolve just proved it’s up to the task by optimizing everything from chip designs to training pipelines. And: We talk to billion-dollar founder Andrew Wilkinson about how you can start prepping for all the changes AI is bringing to your industry.

TODAY IN AI

1. DeepMind’s latest model could help solve AI’s biggest challenges: The research lab just unveiled AlphaEvolve, a coding agent that can help solve technical problems, like making data centers, chip designs, and even Gemini’s own training methods more efficient. When Google fed it over 50 open math problems, it solved 75% of them, and 20% of the time, it even improved upon the best-known solution up to that point. It was built by combining the creativity of Gemini with a sophisticated program that checks and scores the model’s outputs.
2. OpenAI finally brings GPT-4.1 to ChatGPT: The startup revealed that Plus, Pro, and Team users will soon get to try GPT-4.1, while free users can access the mini version. That means GPT-4o is going away for now, but OpenAI says you shouldn’t despair, since 4.1 is better in just about every regard. It essentially combines the coding power of o1 and o3 with the speed of OpenAI’s base models. Both 4.1 and 4.1 mini were announced in April, but only developers could use them until now.
3. Anthropic is about to break its silence: The Claude-maker is reportedly gearing up to release new versions of Sonnet and Opus that combine reasoning and tool use for the first time. That means they can propose an idea, then go check it themselves using external databases and apps. The same goes for coding: The models will test out what they’ve generated partway through and fix their mistakes before delivering a final output. We don’t have an exact timeline, but we expect the models to be out within the next few weeks.

FROM THE FRONTIER
Tiny’s Andrew Wilkinson tells us how AI could help you thrive in your current and coming ventures
Andrew Wilkinson is the billionaire co-founder of Tiny, a holding firm that owns majority stakes in companies like AeroPress and Letterboxd. He went from making $6 an hour as a barista to owning close to 40 businesses. Here are five key things we learned from our conversation:
1. AI makes it easier to build but harder to win: Coding assistants have turned everyone into a developer, and there’s more competition than ever. But while vibe-coded $1M businesses are flourishing, it’s much harder to build a sustainable product that can stand the test of time.
2. Enterprise AI adoption is now the norm: You can’t expect to race past the competition just because you’ve embraced LLMs. Instead, enterprise AI adoption is more of a defense mechanism, helping you maintain profit margins even as the industry changes around you.
3. AI tools can free us up to do more fun, interesting work: Instead of manually scraping and categorizing the emails that land in his inbox, Wilkinson is handing off that entire workflow to Lindy. Wilkinson uses Claude for writing, financial advice, and legal analysis, and o3 for more complex reasoning and research.
4. Brands now matter as much as tech and data: User data used to be digital gold. But now that AI can generate synthetic data that’s just as good, companies have to find other ways to survive. One key to success: Turning your brand into an identity badge for customers. For example, Wilkinson knew AeroPress was special when he noticed baristas were getting tattoos of the gadget on their arms.
5. There’ll be a premium on human trust as AI floods the internet: Generic AI slop could one day evolve into “the most insanely convincing, incredible stuff that tickles just the right funny bone inside you,” Wilkinson said. At the same time, personal brands will outlast faceless ones because nothing can replace the human connection and trust you feel toward your favorite creators.
Wilkinson also shares his workflow for automating his meetings, calendar, accounting, and more using agents.
