1. Global AI funding took a big dive in the first quarter of this year:

Venture funding for AI companies fell 43% this quarter compared to the previous one. Total funding amount stood at $5.4 billion.

2. Birth of AI unicorns holds steady:

Q1'23 saw the emergence of 5 new AI unicorns — companies valued at $1 billion or above — maintaining the same rate as the previous quarter.

Among these unicorns, 3 were generative AI companies, including Anthropic, Adept, and Character.AI, with valuations of $1B or above.

3. US funding declines, Silicon Valley rebounds:

Despite a global decline in AI funding, Silicon Valley saw a rebound in funding, with a 41% increase in funding and a 20% rise in deals during Q1'23.

Hackers allegedly steal 100,000 ChatGPT accounts

Over 100,000 stolen login details for ChatGPT made an unexpected trip to the dark web, says a recent report from Group-IB, a cybersecurity firm based in Singapore.

The main culprit is a malware called Raccoon Infostealer. Like the sneaky critter it's named after, this malware is usually smuggled into devices through seemingly harmless phishing emails and texts.

In response to growing cybersecurity threats, OpenAI has pledged $1 million towards AI-driven cybersecurity initiatives, underlining their commitment to user security and privacy.
