5 tangible ways you can start using AI today

The AI hype is real right now. But what’s hype and what’s real?

Instead of waxing lyrical about what AI could do 10, 20, or 100 years from now, here’s a list of 5 practical ways you can use AI to get real work done today (according to Wharton Professor Ethan Mollick):

1) Get help in writing

• Get AI writing tools to generate drafts

• Ask the tool to edit your writing

• Get it to gather research for you

2) Make images

There are four big image generators you can use right now:

• Stable Diffusion — good for combining AI with images from other sources

• DALLE-E — incorporated into Bing and Bing image creator

• Midjourney — the best system in mid-2023 (also our choice)

• Adobe Firefly — built into a variety of Adobe products

3) Ideation

AI is a powerful tool for idea generation thanks to its capacity for producing high-volume and creative outputs. Handy for overcoming that writer’s block.

4) Video generation

The best tools for AI-driven video generation include:

• D-iD for animating faces

• Runway v2 for converting text to video

• Synthesia for generating avatar videos

• ElevenLabs for voice cloning

This technology allows the creation of entirely AI-produced videos, with AI-generated characters, scripts, voices, and animations. The tech isn’t quite perfect yet, but it’s getting there.

5) Get information and learn stuff

AI can offer more useful answers than traditional searches, particularly in areas like tech support, advice, or how-tos. AI is also really good at explaining complex topics in simple words. But you have to be careful and verify the answers occasionally due to AI’s tendency to “hallucinate“ from time to time.

Israel embeds advanced AI systems in its military operations

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have begun using AI to select targets for airstrikes and manage wartime logistics. The AI recommendation system processes large amounts of data to select targets, while another AI model, Fire Factory, calculates munition loads, prioritizes and assigns targets, and proposes schedules.

While these systems are overseen by human operators, they are not subject to any international or state-level regulation. Critics warn of the potential dangers of relying on increasingly autonomous systems, while proponents argue that AI could help minimize casualties. Read more here →
