All of the AI features coming to Apple devices

For months, the AI revolution has been in full swing on Android devices — as iPhone users watch enviously from the sidelines. But at Tuesday’s highly-anticipated Glowtime event, Apple set out to prove that its new AI features will be well worth the wait.

Here’s everything you’ll be able to do with the new, AI-powered iPhone 16:

  • Generate messages or refine your writing in any app; receive summarized notifications, emails, and meeting notes

  • Create custom emojis and images by typing in a prompt

  • Find specific images with an advanced photo and video search function

  • Talk to an upgraded Siri, which can perform actions across your settings and apps (i.e. “Send Erica the photos from Saturday’s barbecue,” or “Check to see whether mom’s flight is delayed”)

  • Take a picture of an upcoming event or a new restaurant to find more information about it — or ask the newly integrated ChatGPT to help you solve a math problem by pointing your camera at it

What about other devices? With built-in transformers, the new Apple Watch will include advanced machine learning to help users detect whether they have sleep apnea. AirPods will use AI to cut out background noise during phone calls; they can also be used as clinical-grade hearing aids.

What else is new? Set to release on September 20, the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a 16-core neural engine for AI-intensive processes — like advanced color correction in real time or audio mixing that lets you isolate different voices in a recording. The first set of Apple Intelligence tools will be available in beta starting next month, with more features rolling out throughout the year.

FROM THE FRONTIER

Replit Agent helps non-coders build apps with text prompts

Source: Replit

While AI coding assistants like Cursor and Github Copilot have been game-changers for programmers, you have to speak the language of code to get much use out of them — and beginners might not know where to start. That’s because there’s a lot more that goes into coding than just the code itself. You have to weed out bugs, track updates, test user scenarios, and make sure your app can interact with other platforms.

Now, a platform called Replit Agent wants to make the app development process more user-friendly. It’ll reportedly not only write the code for you but take care of the testing and deployment, too. Early users have already generated Wordle replicas, prompt engineering databases, and product sign-up pages with the tool. It also represents a big step toward human-level intelligence: OpenAI co-founder Anderej Karpathy put it in his “‘feel the AGI’ category,” since it can make multi-step decisions on its own.
