TODAY IN AI

1. Sam Altman sheds light on AGI claims: The OpenAI CEO’s mysterious blog post over the weekend left some fans scratching their heads. But in a new Bloomberg interview, Altman offered a few more breadcrumbs, predicting that “AGI will probably get developed during [the next] president’s term.”

  • The evidence: o3 scored an 87.5% on a leading reasoning benchmark — beating the 85% threshold that some experts said represents AGI

  • But funding is still a concern: Altman revealed in a separate post that OpenAI’s $200 Pro subscription tier hasn’t been profitable so far — ironically because “people use it much more than we expected,” raising the cost of compute

2. Nvidia shows off ‘world’s smallest AI supercomputer’: Jensen Huang and his signature leather jacket are back. This time, Huang unveiled Project DIGITS, a Blackwell-powered supercomputer that can run 200B-parameter AI models locally while being small enough to fit on your desktop. Here’s everything else the chip giant is working on:

  • The state-of-the-art RTX 5090 graphics card will give PCs new capabilities — including 8K gaming, immersive VR, and AI-powered video editing

  • A platform called Cosmos simulates real-world tasks, dramatically speeding up the development of new robots and autonomous cars, with major partners like Toyota already onboard

  • Rivals Intel, Qualcomm, and AMD tried to steal the spotlight by announcing their own AI chips, which they say will give upcoming Copilot PCs state-of-the-art performance
