First Look: Apple's ChatGPT Integration Has Arrived

Apple just rolled out the beta of iOS 18.2 for developers, bringing the next wave of its Apple Intelligence features, including a big one: ChatGPT integration. New features include Image Playground and Genmoji for custom emojis, expanded Writing Tools for custom text commands, and Visual Intelligence, which lets iPhone 16 models analyze what the camera sees.

• With the ChatGPT integration, Siri can now pass complex queries to OpenAI's chatbot, though users need to approve it first.

• The update also expands language support to more English-speaking regions other than the US. Even more languages are coming in 2025.

• Apple has put safeguards in place for image generation, such as filters for inappropriate content and limits on photorealistic images.

• Some highly anticipated features aren’t quite ready yet (like Siri's ability to act within apps) but the beta release is meant to gather feedback from developers before the official release later this year.
