OpenAI DevDay Part I: Custom ChatGPTs and the App Store of AI
OpenAI
Perhaps the most consequential and game-changing announcement that came at yesterday’s event was the release of ‘GPTs‘, a new feature that lets you create custom versions of ChatGPT that combine instructions, additional knowledge, and various combinations of skills.
These GPTs will give anyone the ability to create custom versions of ChatGPT suited to their needs and working style. More importantly, users will be able to create these GPTs with simple text instructions without needing any code. These GPTs can be created for personal or professional use.
Some examples of custom GPTs:
A writing coach
A startup advisor
A negotiation coach
A Canva GPT that creates designs
A Zapier AI Actions GPT that automates tasks
Here’s a video that shows OpenAI CEO Sam Altman building a custom GPT in 4 minutes:

Perhaps most importantly, anyone will be able to share the GPTs they’ve created and make money through the GPT Store that’s coming later this month.
Think of it as the App Store for AI, but now anyone can build and monetize their app without needing any coding skills. This is a truly transformational leap that could open up an entire new GPT economy with millions of people building, sharing, and monetizing their creations.
Enterprise users will also be able to let employees inside their company design internal-only GPTs without code and securely share them across the organization.
The GPT feature will be rolling out to Plus and Enterprise users in the coming days.
You can find more details about GPTs on the official blog here.

OpenAI DevDay Part II: GPT-4 Turbo, Assistants, APIs, and more
OpenAI
While custom GPTs and the GPT Store may have been the biggest announcements from yesterday’s event, OpenAI also announced a long list of massive new features and upgrades for ChatGPT and GPT-4.
Here’ s a brief summary of everything that’s coming:
GPT-4 Turbo
The next generation of GPT-4
Comes with a 128k context window, enough to upload text equivalent to a book in a prompt
Comes with updated knowledge of world events up to April 2023
Also comes with function calling updates, improved instruction following, JSON mode and reproducible outputs and log probabilities
Assistants API, Retrieval, and Code Interpreter
Assistants API will let developers build agent-like experiences within their own applications
Use cases include: a natural language-based data analysis app, a coding assistant, an AI-powered vacation planner
The API will also have access to Code Interpreter, retrieval, and function calling
API access to Vision, Dall-E 3 and Text-to-speech
GPT-4 Turbo can accept images as inputs. Use cases include: generating captions, analyzing real world images in detail, and reading documents with figures
The Images API will let developers programmatically generate images and designs in their products
The new text-to-speech API will also let developers generate human-quality speech from text
Lower prices and higher rate limits
GPT-4 Turbo input tokens will now be 3x cheaper than GPT-4 at $0.01. Output tokens will be 2x cheaper at $0.03
GPT-3.5 Turbo will also get similarly lower pricing
OpenAI is also doubling the tokens per minute limit for all paying GPT-4 customers
Copyright Shield
OpenAI said it will defend customers, and pay the costs incurred, if they face legal claims around copyright infringement
This will apply to generally available features of ChatGPT Enterprise and the developer platform
