The author argues that AI will ultimately lead to human extinction and suggests that all AI research be shut down instead of a temporary halt.

    While Time is busy scaring people about AI, multi-billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman struck a different tone, saying:

    “Shutting down AI development for six months gives the bad guys six more months to catch up. Our enemies are working hard to develop their own OpenAI. It would have been a mistake to delay the Manhattan Project and let the Nazis catch up. I don’t think we have a choice.“ (source)

  2. Midjourney has temporarily paused the free trial of its AI image generator to combat the release of high-profile deep fakes by its users. However, users can still enjoy the paid version, although that is unlikely to solve the problem of deep fakes altogether.
