ALSO: How to use AI agents to prep for a sales call

Read time: under 4 minutes
Welcome back, Superhuman. OpenAI has been sneakily designing its own AI gadget behind the scenes, but Perplexity might just beat it to the punch. It’s teaming up with T-Mobile’s parent company to launch a new AI phone later this year.

1. A Perplexity-powered phone and more from MWC: At this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Lenovo showed off an AI-powered emoji companion that connects to your laptop, plus a new AI Stick — sort of like a flash drive that automatically turns your computer into an AI powerhouse. Meanwhile, Perplexity announced it’s teaming up with T-Mobile’s parent company on an agentic “AI phone” that’ll release later this year, marking the search platform’s first jump into AI hardware.
2. Opera becomes first major browser to get an AI agent: Opera might not be as well known as Chrome or Safari. But it’s been a trend-setter since 1995 — it was the first to come up with features like popup blockers, tabs, and private browsing. Now, it’s taking another leap with the industry’s first AI agent. Browser Operator can take control of your computer to find cheap flights, order tickets, and more. But it’s about to face some stiff competition, with Perplexity and Arc set to launch their own agentic browsers soon.
3. TSMC signs major US chip deal: If you want to boost AI chip manufacturing inside your country, you won’t get too far without TSMC’s help. That’s because the Taiwanese company makes about 90% of the world’s advanced chips — for everyone from Nvidia to Apple. It just announced plans to invest $100B in the US over the next four years, including for new AI chip plants in Arizona. It’s a big deal for the Trump administration, which has been trying to attract chip manufacturers back to the US.

Alphabet unveils game-changing data agent

Data Science Agent can help users analyze complex data. Source: Alphabet
Vibe coders are getting really good at using AI to make apps and games from scratch. But analyzing figures and charts is a different story. For one, just getting all of your company’s data into an LLM can be a major headache. After that, you might still need some coding skills to do more complicated tasks.
Alphabet wants to close that gap with a Data Science Agent that can deal with your data via simple text prompts. You can access it through a no-cost coding platform called Colab that’s powered by AI chips in the cloud. It can turn custom datasets into visualizations and prediction models and even fill in missing values by thinking through each step for you.
Gemini is getting some new features, too: First, a “saved info” feature helps the chatbot remember certain details about your life. It can also stick to certain writing styles — for example, if you prefer very concise responses. Meanwhile, a new Gemini Live feature will soon let Advanced subscribers ask questions about what’s going on in their surroundings or on their screen.
