Glean raises $200M to become the AI-powered assistant for work

Source: Glean

47% of digital workers struggle to find the information needed to effectively perform their jobs, according to a ~5,000 employee survey conducted by research firm Gartner. And if there’s one thing generative AI excels at, it’s finding information from large pools of data.

The problem is compounded by the fact that many workplaces use multiple apps, which makes it difficult to find information across multiple sources. That’s where Glean comes in — it’s an AI-powered search app that helps workers find information with plain English prompts, without the need for any coding or data skills.

Glean connects with 100+ apps across your company such as email, Slack, Notion, Salesforce and more to retrieve the most relevant information in a manner that is best suited to your particular needs. Glean uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation, an AI framework that enhances accuracy and reliability, to search and generate its responses.

The company also recently announced $200M in funding which values it at $2.2 Billion, and counts Duolingo, Grammarly, and Databricks among its customers.

How to generate accurate text in images with Ideogram

Generated with Ideogram

Image generation app Ideogram just released Ideogram 1.0 — its most advanced text-to-image model to date. This model offers exceptional text rendering, unprecedented photorealism and prompt adherence, and a new feature called Magic Prompt that helps you write detailed prompts for images.

While other image generators like Midjourney and Dall-E are capable of generating short pieces of text in images, Ideogram seems to do a capable job with longer texts that other image generators struggle with.

Heres how to use it:

  • Go to Ideogram 1.0 and sign up.

  • Write your prompt in the text box and make sure you turn on Magic Prompt for better results.

  • Choose your style from the list at the bottom. (you have multiple options like cinematic, 3d render, etc.)

  • Now click on generate and wait for a few seconds.

For the image above, I used the following prompt:

Prompt: A robot in green colour with a sign in its hands that says "SUPERHUMAN - Get smart about AI"
Preset: Turn on Magic Prompt
Style: Cinematic

This is in turn generated a longer prompt with the help of the Magic Prompt option mentioned in the steps above. If your text is not accurately generated, we recommend making small changes to the prompt or text to get better results.

CHART

ChatGPT user demographics

Source: Similarweb

According to estimated data from website traffic analysis platform Similarweb, the ChatGPT website received 1.6 Billion visits last month. Of those visitors, 55% were male and the age range of visitors leaned towards younger age groups, with 18-34 year olds making up for ~60% of all traffic.

Note: The data is an estimate by Similarweb and it only looks at traffic data for the ChatGPT website. There is likely a large amount of traffic for the ChatGPT mobile app that is unaccounted for. These numbers have not been confirmed by an official source, so we recommend viewing them as nothing more than a rough estimate.

Rift between AI and media companies escalates as OpenAI faces new lawsuit

What happened

The list of lawsuits against OpenAI is piling up. After the New York Times sued the company behind ChatGPT for copyright infringement, media outlets The Intercept, Raw Story, and Alternet added their names to the list of companies suing OpenAI on similar charges.

The details

The media outlets are suing OpenAI in New York federal court and seeking damages of $2,500 per violation, as well as removal of their content from OpenAI’s datasets. The companies claim that OpenAI trained its chatbot on copyrighted content without citations or credits.

Why it matters

A victory for publications who allege their data has been stolen could force AI companies to compensate publishers for their content, or remove it outright from their data sets. On the other hand, if cases like these are dismissed, it could be a major blow to a publication industry that is already struggling.
