OpenAI rumored to launch autonomous agents at Nov 6 event
According to a number of tweets on X, OpenAI is expected to unveil what could be the next big thing in AI: autonomous agents.
If you haven’t heard the term before, autonomous agents are AI-powered software that can talk and work with other software to accomplish tasks on their own.
For example, let’s say you instruct an autonomous agent to organize a party for your office. The autonomous agent could theoretically proceed on its own to interact with other apps to do the following:
Connect with your office email account and calendar app to create an invite list
Generate an invite card and email it to everyone in the office
Order some snacks from a food delivery app
Create a playlist on YouTube and connect with your office speakers
While the definition and use cases can vary (this is a new field after all), the example above should give you some idea of what’s possible here.
A productized release from OpenAI would be a big leap for the tech, but there are some previous examples of autonomous agents in action:
While rumors and predictions in AI can be hit or miss, previous predictions around GPT-4 multimodal, Dall-E 3, and audio and image processing in recent months have been fairly accurate. As with all rumors and predictions, we recommend you take this news with a grain of salt.

Google releases image generation capabilities in search
Can’t find that image you’re looking for? Google’s new AI feature could be the fix. Announced late last week, Google is bringing image generation capabilities to Search Generative Experience (SGE), Google’s version of AI in search.
According to the official blog post, you’ll now be able to generate up to 4 images in searches with a simple text prompt. Search results will also occasionally have a “create something new” button when you’re looking for an image.
To protect users against harmful or misleading content, Google will also include watermarks to indicate whether an image was created with AI.
To use the feature, follow these steps:
Go to labs.google
Find the Google Search category and click Get Started
Enable the SGE generative AI in Search option

AI IN BUSINESS
81% of big companies have generative AI teams, Wharton professor finds
According to a recent survey by Wharton, 81% of businesses with revenues of $50 million or more have built generative AI teams. Smaller businesses ($50m - $200m) are leading the way in using the tech, while larger ones show skepticism, particularly over accuracy.
Some of the key findings are:
75% of executives feel positive about the future of generative AI
58% of executives use generative AI regularly
55% say it will increase work quality
36% expect generative AI to replace employee skills for some tasks
Applications across a range of industries are anticipated, with data analysis and marketing content creation at the top of the list. Despite concerns about human obsolescence, Wharton Professor Puntoni sees a future where people are empowered and more productive rather than being replaced by AI.
