💰️ Funding: With backing from OpenAI, language-learning startup Speak raised $78M in a new round, catapulting it to unicorn status with a $1B valuation. Paris-based Aqemia, which uses quantum physics and AI to discover new drugs, raised $38M in a Series A led by Wendel Growth.

1. Putting Alphabet’s quantum breakthrough into perspective: Researchers are still reeling from the news that Alphabet’s quantum chip just accomplished a computing challenge that would have taken ordinary supercomputers longer than the age of the universe to solve.

• It did so while keeping errors to a minimum — a feat that had eluded scientists for 30 years

• Try to wrap your head around this one: The company says the calculations happened so fast they might have taken place in parallel universes, “in line with the idea that we live in a multiverse” — although some physicists pushed back on that theory

• The next challenge will be to use the computer for real-world tasks

2. ChatGPT gets more collaborative and intuitive: OpenAI is opening up its Canvas feature — sort of like an AI-powered word processor — to all ChatGPT users. It lets you adjust your text for length, change the reading level, and add a final polish with a couple clicks. You’ll now be able to ask ChatGPT for in-line comments, too. Finally, Canvas can now run Python code, spotting bugs and errors for you.

3. Bad blood among Tech giants: According to The Information, Alphabet is calling on the US government to kill Microsoft's exclusive cloud hosting deal with OpenAI. They argue that the partnership stops competitors from hosting OpenAI's tech and forces customers to use Microsoft’s cloud, which might drive up costs. According to them, this setup could hurt competition and make it harder for other providers to offer OpenAI’s AI models.

• Enter your prompt for video in the prompt box at the bottom. Be specific and detailed in your description.

• Select aspect ratio, resolution, duration, and number of variations. Now wait for a few seconds.

AI glasses battle heats up: Solos takes on Meta

AI gadgets have gotten off to a rocky start, except for one major exception: Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses have been a surprise hit thanks to their reasonable price point and a growing list of AI features — so much that they now represent the bulk of Ray-Ban sales in much of the world.

Now, the social media giant is up against its biggest rival yet: Smart glasses maker Solos announced its new AI spectacles, the first to fully integrate GPT-4o, are now available for purchase.

• The AirGo Vision, which comes in a variety of frame and color options, can identify people, objects, and text through their camera, unlocking some sci-fi-like capabilities

• You’ll be able to translate text, get directions, or ask things like “Tell me about this monument”

• At $299, they’re priced identically to Meta’s offering

• Because they have an open architecture, you’ll also be able to access Claude and Gemini with them

• Solos is riding the augmented reality wave, with AR hardware usage expected to double this year alone
