Social media platforms have long waged a war on bots. But Meta might soon flip the script, letting AI-generated bots create posts alongside human users. Will the move really make Instagram and Facebook more “engaging” — or just lead to more AI slop?

TODAY IN AI
Last year, Nvidia raced past the competition to become the second most valuable company in the world. Source: LSEG/Reuters
1. Nvidia’s market cap increased by over $2T in 2024: The old adage “you have to spend money to make money” rang true for Nvidia in 2024. Its $1B investment in AI startups last year helped fuel its rise as the second-largest company in the world. That spending spree continued this week as it gobbled up AI infrastructure startup Run:AI for $700M.
2. OpenAI finalizes its for-profit pivot: The startup’s board is looking over a plan to transform its commercial wing into a public benefit corporation — meaning it can turn a profit as long as it builds products that improve society. But the plan isn’t without controversy. A growing legion of critics are throwing their support behind Elon Musk’s lawsuit, which argues OpenAI is abandoning its founding principles.
3. AI beats experts at spotting the fifth most fatal cancer for women in the US: A new study in Nature Medicine found that AI can identify ovarian lesions in ultrasounds with 86.3% accuracy, compared to 82.6% among human experts and 77% for non-experts. Since it can take a while to get an appointment with a specialist, AI diagnoses could speed up treatments by weeks or months while cutting down on misdiagnoses by as much as 18%.

Now select ‘Start Now’, and it will take you to a chat interface.
Select the ‘DeepThink’ option below the prompt box to enable advanced reasoning capabilities.
Enter the prompt which requires advanced reasoning skills.
Sample Prompt: Design a $10B transportation network for a city of 5M (growing to 8M in 20 years) to:
Cut traffic by 30%,
Ensure 90% access to public transport within 10 minutes,
Reduce emissions by 40% in 10 years. Constraints: Limited land, existing infrastructure must stay operational. Deliverables: Propose transport systems (e.g., buses, trains, bike lanes), integrate with current infrastructure, suggest eco-friendly policies, and outline data-driven strategies. Identify risks and justify your plan.
This problem requires systems thinking, resource optimization, and multi-variable analysis and it will break down into simple, logical, and easy steps.
You can try different scenarios and prompts to find out what works best for you.
FROM THE FRONTIER
Meta says it wants to bring more AI bots to its platforms
Meta’s VP of product for generative AI proposed new tools that will let users publicly share AI-generated bots. Source: Meta
Talk about a 180. Meta purged at least 2 million fake accounts across its platforms last year. But it’s reportedly changing its tune in 2025 with plans to roll out new AI-powered bots, including ones that can post on their own.
“They’ll have bios and profile pictures and be able to generate and share content,” the company’s VP of product for generative AI told FT. Users will be able to create their own bots, too — a move that Meta thinks will make Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp “more entertaining and engaging.”
Keep in mind, Meta will continue to filter out bots used for scams, and AI accounts will be clearly marked so you can tell them apart from your real-life friends. But some critics worry the proposed changes could contribute to a growing problem known as slop, when our feeds get overrun with AI-generated clutter, making it harder to find quality content made by humans.
