Browsing’s back, baby. After taking ChatGPT’s browsing feature down a few months ago, OpenAI relaunched the feature yesterday with some new upgrades.

And Meta went mega at their Connect event yesterday, as the company behind Instagram and Facebook made a long list of blockbuster AI (and non-AI) announcements.

Meta takes things to the next level with major new AI and product announcements

AI chatbots, smart glasses, VR headsets, AI-powered image editing and so much more. Meta went big-time at its Connect event yesterday and launched a bucket full of exciting new products and features.

Personality AI Chatbots

  • Meta messaging apps are getting 28 new personality chatbots based on famous celebrities, athletes, singers and more.

  • The chatbots will be available across Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

  • Right now you can only talk to the chatbots via text, with audio coming next year.

  • Chatbots include Mr Beast, Snoop Dogg, Kendal Jenner, Tom Brady, and more.

Meta’s AI Assistant

  • The new AI Assistant works across all of Meta’s messaging apps and gives you real-time answers and generates images in seconds.

  • The assistant works with Microsoft Bing to give you real-time web results.

  • The assistant can do things like answer general knowledge questions, fetch facts, search the internet, find recipes, and more.

Other key updates

  • Meta also launched Meta Quest 3, their new VR headset with better graphics and higher resolution.

  • Meta’s new Ray-Ban smart glasses will use 2 cameras to record livestreams and share them with your friends.

  • Meta’s AI Studio platform will help businesses create chatbots.

  • AI-generated stickers are coming to Meta’s messaging apps.

  • A new AI image editing feature will let users restyle and change the background in their images.

All of the AI tech is based on Llama 2, Meta’s open-access AI models released earlier this year.

Browsing is back on ChatGPT — with some new features

After launching to great fanfare earlier this year, ChatGPT’s browsing feature was taken down a couple of months back after issues like the chatbot bypassing paywalls started appearing in the news.

But the feature is back as of yesterday, along with some new upgrades:

  • The browsing feature will let you find real-time information on the internet.

  • Answers will now come with direct links to sources.

  • Answers are no longer limited to the previous cut-off date of Sep 2021.

Browsing will be available to Plus and Enterprise users as of today. Access will be rolled out to other users in the future.

You can enable browsing by selecting Browse with Bing in the selector at the top of the screen (see image above).
