🧠 Insight: The Economist says ChatGPT could replace white-collar jobs

(And why it might not be a bad thing)

After decades of blue-collar jobs being snatched up by machines, advanced chatbots are now breathing down white collar-jobs. Generative AI tools like ChatGPT have made significant progress in crafting human-like responses to many queries. So much so that chatbots have now leapfrogged humans in certain tasks. This could impact as many as 300m jobs globally, according to Goldman Sachs.

However, AI automation should not be feared by default- at least according to The Economist. It could unshackle workers from mundane tasks and unleash greater labour productivity, which would be a boost for tight labour markets in advanced economies. A study by Goldman Sachs, published on April 5th, suggests that generative AI could grow global GDP by 7% in the next decade.

Even so, there is a realistic chance that many forecasts are overestimating chatbots and underestimating human characteristics like empathy and charisma in doing these jobs.

🤖 News: Musk threatens to sue Microsoft

In a tweet posted yesterday, Elon Musk threatened to sue Microsoft for allegedly using Twitter data to train its models without the company’s permission. Musk also recently announced an alternative to ChatGPT called TruthGPT. Seems like things are heating up in the battle for AI supremacy. (source)
