Latest AI research breakthrough from Nvidia can teach robots new skills

Nvidia

Eureka — That’s what researchers at Nvidia are calling a new AI agent that can automatically generate algorithms that teach robots complex new skills, like spinning a pen.

Eureka does this by using GPT-4 to write automated reward functions. Reward functions are the algorithmic equivalent of candy that AI models receive every time they give researchers a desired outcome.

But writing these reward functions can be complex and time-consuming. However, this latest breakthrough can reportedly outperform human-written algorithms 80% of the time in tests, which could significantly accelerate the timeline for many innovations in robotics.

The breakthrough is already teaching robots new skills like spinning pens, opening drawers and tossing a ball.

Google Pixel’s AI-powered face-altering feature sparks debate

Source: AI in Plain English

If a regular picture is worth a thousand words, an AI-generated one is worth a lot more these days, as users and reviewers have divided opinions on Google Pixel’s new AI-powered photo features.

While we’re all used to a bit of editing and filtering when it comes to online photos, Google’s new Pixel phones take editing to the next level with the ability to alter the expressions on your face.

For example, let’s say your eyes are closed in a photo. Google can now go through other photos on your phone and layer in expressions where you’re looking at the camera. The feature also lets you remove unwanted objects or people from a photo.

But many online reviews aren’t quite impressed with these new editing features. Tech Radar called it potentially “creepy“ and Cnet said it has the potential to "pose serious threats to people's (already fragile) trust of online content."

However, AI in phone photography isn’t something new. Smartphones have been using AI and machine learning for years to capture more light, improve image quality, and make images look smoother. The real question is: how much AI-powered editing is too much editing?

5 tips from Gartner to prepare your business for generative AI

Gartner - the American tech research and consulting firm - thinks that AI is here to stay and that it will affect every part of your business. In a recent event on the topic, Gartner recommends that companies consider the following components when building their AI strategy:

  1. Establish clear objectives by analyzing risks and opportunities for innovation in the front office, efficiency in the back office, and potential for new product and service offerings.

  2. Create ‘Lighthouse Principles’ that align with organizational values.

  3. Prioritize AI data-readiness. Focus on data security, enrichment, fairness, accuracy, and governance in line with your lighthouse principles.

  4. Strengthen AI security. Create robust policies to prepare for potential risks.

  5. Focus on decision intelligence. Pay attention to how you can use AI to make better decisions inside the organization.

How to turn Excel sheets into compelling visualizations with ChatGPT

Log into ChatGPT and enable Code Interpreter mode at the top of the screen.

  • Upload the Excel or CSV file of your choice.

  • Enter the following prompt:

"run a basic analysis on the file I've uploaded"
