2. TSMC pulled off an unexpected win: At its new Arizona facility, chip production yields are 4 percentage points higher than in Taiwan - a key factor for profitability. This is a major achievement, especially considering the earlier setbacks to the project. It also represents a big step forward for U.S. efforts to revitalize domestic semiconductor manufacturing.

OpenAI Reportedly Prepares for Landmark "Orion" Launch, Sam Altman Hits Back

According to a report from The Verge, OpenAI is gearing up for a big launch with its new model, Orion, expected to debut by December 2024. This one’s set to be a game-changer, reportedly up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4. But unlike previous releases, Orion will be available only to select partner companies at first. Microsoft is already on board and could start hosting it on Azure as early as November. Here’s more:

• Training for Orion apparently wrapped up in September, with OpenAI celebrating the milestone internally.

• Around the same time, CEO Sam Altman hinted at something big, posting a cryptic message about “winter constellations,” likely a nod to Orion’s arrival.

• The release could come on ChatGPT’s 2nd Birthday

• The model’s development is also happening during a period of big organizational shifts at OpenAI, including a hefty funding boost and the recent exit of some key executives, like CTO Mira Murati.

But OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hit back in a comment on X, calling the report “fake news out of control.“ It remains to be seen how The Verge responds to the allegation.
