THE BIG INSIGHT

GPT-5 trademark application hints at groundbreaking new features

According to several tweets and online reports, OpenAI has recently filed a Trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for GPT-5.

In case you’re not familiar with AI models, GPT-4 is OpenAI’s current leading model, which powers many of today’s biggest AI apps, like ChatGPT.

Filed on July 18, 2023, the application covers a range of language model applications such as:

• Artificial production of human speech and text

• Audio to text conversion

• Voice and speech recognition

• Machine-learning based language and speech processing

• Translation of text or speech from one language to another

• Creating and generating text

• Developing and implementing artificial neural networks

Seems like audio input and generation will be one of the major next steps for the upcoming model. Although many are still waiting on the image upload features promised in GPT-4 at the time of release.

There’s currently no expected date for the release of GPT-5. But considering how wildly successful GPT-3 and GPT-4 have been, there’s bound to be a lot of excitement for the latest addition.
