Will a new technological wave bring a new hardware device to challenge the iPhone? Sam Altman and Apple’s former head of design Jony Ive certainly seem to think so.

After reports emerged earlier in the year that the pair were in talks to raise $1 Billion from SoftBank for their new hardware project, a new report from Bloomberg now claims that the pair have convinced outgoing Apple executive Tang Tan to join their mission.

Tan is reportedly stepping down as Apple’s vice president of iPhone and watch product design, and will lead hardware engineering for the new AI device at LoveFrom, Jony Ive’s design firm.

AI looks set to disrupt tech hardware, as generative AI unlocks new ways for users to interact with their devices. Humane - another company with several former Apple employees - recently announced the Ai Pin, an AI-powered wearable device that sticks to your clothes and is controlled through voice commands.
