Elon Musk says Grok 3 is weeks away: The xAI founder is promising powerful capabilities for the new model and claims “Grok 3 is outperforming anything that's been released.“ Musk says the model is in the final stages of development and will be released in about a week or two. 2. Europe flips the switch from regulation to innovation: LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman once warned that Europe risked becoming just a “referee” in the AI race rather than a real player. Now, the EU is shifting gears, officially scrapping its ePrivacy Regulation and introducing a new set of initiatives to help startups scale up. 3. Perplexity’s new model runs circles around the competition: The AI search startup just unveiled Sonar, a model built on top of Meta’s open-source Llama 3.3 that can search the web at lightning speed. It’s allegedly faster than OpenAI and Anthropic’s efficiency-focused LLMs while “surpassing top models like GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet in user satisfaction.” It achieved those results by teaming up with Nvidia rival Cerebras, which designs chips built from the ground up for AI.

OpenAI’s GPT-5 is officially in the works — and we might not have long to wait

Sam Altman said ‘enough with the rumors.’ After months of speculation, the OpenAI CEO laid it all out on the table and officially revealed GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 details. Even he’s getting tired of “how complicated our model and product offerings have gotten” — so the basic idea is to streamline things so ChatGPT is much easier to use.

The details:

• Altman confirmed that the long-hyped Orion is officially called GPT-4.5. It’ll be the startup’s final “non-chain-of-thought” model — meaning it’s the last one that will provide an answer without thinking through each step first.

• Next up, GPT-5 will look more like an all-in-one interface that can handle whatever you throw at it, featuring voice, search, deep research, and more, all in one unified package.

• Free users will get unlimited access to this new model, while Plus and Pro subscribers will get to use versions with increasingly higher intelligence levels.

• They’re coming sooner than you think: Altman suggested GPT-4.5 will be here in a matter of weeks, while GPT-5 is just months away.

In the meantime, Altman also shared plans to make Deep Research available to all Plus subscribers, who’ll get 10 monthly uses, and free users, who’ll get two. And if that wasn’t enough, o3’s advanced reinforcement learning capabilities just helped it reach the 99.8th percentile of coders in the International Olympiad in Informatics, a leading competition for algorithmic problem-solving and coding.
