1. Anyone can now use Gemini’s powerful image generator: All Gemini users are getting access to the platform’s text-to-image model, Imagen 3, across mobile and desktop. You can simply type your image prompt directly into Gemini’s interface — and refine the result with follow-up instructions. But there’s a catch: For now, only Advanced subscribers will be able to create images of people.

2. AMD cuts Nvidia down to size with new AI chips: When it comes to GPUs, Nvidia leads the pack — but AMD just unveiled a chip that could challenge Nvidia’s 90% market dominance. Its new MI325X can allegedly go toe-to-toe with Nvidia’s state-of-the-art Blackwell chips. Since Nvidia’s GPUs have a months-long waitlist, companies like Meta and Microsoft are desperate for alternatives — a niche that AMD is eager to fill.

3. OpenAI’s new benchmark tests how well models can build other LLMs: OpenAI’s putting its new frontier model through the wringer. The startup just introduced a new benchmark to test how well o1 can build and tweak other LLMs. The model scored at least a bronze medal in around 17% of challenges. That might not sound like a lot, but keep in mind the competitions are meant to be tricky, and passing them is no easy feat, even for humans.

Telsa unveils long-awaited Cybercab prototype

Source: Tesla

After years of speculation, Tesla has finally unveiled its long-awaited autonomous robo-taxi prototype: A sleek two-seater with butterfly-wing doors and no pedals or steering wheel. At the startup’s “We, Robot” event in LA, Elon Musk laid out his vision for a future where robotaxis can be “10 times safer than a human[-driven vehicle]” and roam the streets on their own. He added they’d be available “before 2027” and cost around $30,000.

It remains to be seen whether Musk can keep up with robo-rivals like Waymo and Cruise, which have already hit the streets in SF, LA, and Las Vegas. Some skeptics say this is too little, too late. But Musk is dead set on an autonomous future. He also unveiled the Robovan, a larger autonomous vehicle concept that can transport up to 20 people, and announced some upgrades to the Tesla Bot.
