1. Alphabet is building a real-life Matrix: DeepMind’s Tim Brooks is putting together a star-studded crew to create digital simulations of our world, which could help robots learn complex tasks while enabling more immersive gaming and VR experiences. Brooks, the former lead of OpenAI’s Sora, enters the fray as everyone from “AI Godmother” Fei-Fei Li’s World Labs to Meta race to develop models inspired by real-world physics.
2. OpenAI’s first AI agent is coming soon: The Sam Altman-led startup is usually ahead-of-the-curve, but one area where it’s lagged behind rivals like Anthropic and Alphabet: AI agents. The Information reports that’s because it’s worried about malicious websites hijacking users’ computers without their knowledge. Despite the risks, insiders say a GPT-powered tool that can navigate the web on its own could be just weeks away.
3. Robot see, robot do: While Nvidia’s new GPU stole the show at CES, its latest robotics innovations might prove just as influential, with CEO Jensen Huang calling them a “multi-trillion-dollar” opportunity. The new GR00T platform lets users strap on a Vision Pro headset and perform different tasks — with the model then translating those actions into the digital realm so robots can mimic them.

Samsung’s rolling AI assistant is set for release later this year. Source: Samsung
⚖️ Open Season: Meta announced it’ll loosen its content moderation policies and stop fact-checking posts in favor of a crowd-sourced “community notes” model similar to the one X currently uses.
🛞 Ready to Roll: Five years after it was first introduced, Samsung’s redesigned, spherical AI assistant is wheeling into your living room later this year. It can autonomously navigate homes, manage smart devices, project videos, and even suggest ideal wine pairings — all with a simple voice command.
🔍 Summary Scrutiny: Apple said it’s making changes to its LLM-powered summaries, including flagging them as AI, as it faces complaints over generating inaccurate news roundups.
🎮 Streaming Sidekick: Streamlabs, Inworld AI, and Nvidia are set to launch an AI cohost for Twitch streamers this year. It’ll deliver real-time game commentary, record gameplay, and troubleshoot issues on the fly.
📸 Picture-Perfect Pairing: Getty Images and Shutterstock are joining forces in a $3.7B mega-merger to create a stock image powerhouse, positioning themselves to stave off the disruption AI is causing in the industry.
📈 Markets: What comes up must come down. After reaching a record high on Monday, Nvidia closed Tuesday down more than 6% despite favorable analyst ratings. The downturn, which also affected Amazon (-2.42%), Apple (-1.14%), and Microsoft (1.28%), was brought on by shaky economic data that could signal inflation in the US.
💰 Funding: A new analysis finds that AI startups brought in a record $97B last year. That trend shows no sign of slowing down as Claude-maker Anthropic looks set to raise $2B in a deal that would value the company at $60B. Meanwhile, Microsoft vowed to invest $3B in India just as the US announces its own AI partnership with the world’s most populous country.
